CLASS DIRECTORY READY TO EMAIL

The BHS Class of 1972  Class Directory is ready to email out to all who have shared their email address with me.  If I do not have your email address, I will not be able to send it to you.

I do not plan to post it on Facebook because then the whole world will have your email address and possibly use the emails for advertising.  I respect your privacy.

You will notice that some classmate's names are highlighted in yellow.  That indicates that I have been in touch with them and they do not want to share some or all of their contact information.  Some classmates have an asterisk * in certain fields.  That indicates that they are not sharing the information meant to fill that space.

If there is someone you are in touch with that does not have their name listed in the directory,  please contact them and ask them to reach out to me at:

carolyn@hammerandhammer.com

Thank you for your help and cooperation in creating this document.  Any mistakes are strictly mine, and will be corrected as soon as I am notified of the error.  If I have left anyone out who sent me their information, I apologize and assure you that it was not intentional.

It has truly been a pleasure being in contact with everyone who reached out to me during the ticket sales for the Reunion weekend, as well as those who could not attend the reunion but contacted me to be included in the Directory.

I am hoping that this Directory will help our class to stay in touch!

Thank you and much love to you all,

Carolyn (Butcher) Hammer

REUNION WEEKEND RECAP

One month ago, on June 10th, the Berner High School, Class of 1972, 50th Reunion buffet dinner was held at Captain Bill’s in Bay Shore.  Of the 100 tickets purchased, 92 were able to attend.  The event started at 5:00 pm, and ended a little after 9 pm.

Everything looked amazing!  Evelyn Cappadona Biales, our own class Martha Stewart, was able to plan and execute a distinctive table decoration plan that made the room look stunning.  Many of the things she purchased for this event were great souvenirs of a fun and memorable event.  Thank you, Evelyn, for all of your planning to make sure this event hit all the right notes.

The evening was a whirlwind of music, dancing, great food and drinks, and laughing and chatting with classmates, some of whom had never attended one of our reunions before.  The classmate who traveled the furthest was Monica Winkel, who came from Norway, and many other classmates traveled from across the United States to be there.  There were door prizes, and 4 lucky classmates won back the ticket price of the event.

But there was something else magical that happened that evening.  Despite the fact that the years had changed us all, and reduced our youth and vigor, we all were 17 again that night.  Just the fact that you graduated with the Class of 1972 initiated you into a tight-knit group of classmates that value the childhoods they shared in Massapequa, and the bonds they forged at A.G. Berner High School.  Not to mention the hijinks at the bridge.

Our Beach event on Saturday was absolutely wonderful.  The venue, the view, the delicious food and the fact that we were on the beach made it a most memorable and wonderful event.

The attendees were 62 classmates and 2 teachers.

Please know that this reunion weekend was planned and presented by a dedicated group of committee members, who worked for nearly two years to make sure each detail was right.  They are:  Bob Russo, Evelyn Cappadona Biales, Donna Capak Pitrelli, Grace Keegan Dervin, Bob Fregenti, Francine Misuraca Balinskas, Karen Relihan Slizewski, (James) Garrett King, and Carolyn Butcher Hammer.  Every one of us were dedicated to making sure the weekend would be a blast.

Our class is a very special class, and in my opinion, we were so lucky to have grown up in a time that allowed us to have witnessed so many amazing and wonderful things.  We missed those who could not be at the event due to family commitments, illness or distance.  We raised a glass to you all, and we also silently remembered the 60 classmates who have passed.

I hope to keep our class connected, and I am working on our updated Class Directory.  If you have not yet sent me your contact information, please email me at:

carolyn@hammerandhammer.com

and I will add you to the Class Directory.  I am collecting email addresses, cell phone numbers and please let me know if you will accept text messages.

Thank you to all who came and shared their memories.

Nice jeans or shorts or summer dresses are probably perfect but be sure to think about bringing a sweater, sweatshirt or similar outerwear as it can get very breezy and cool in early June at the beach.

REUNION WEEKEND ADDS AN ADDITIONAL EVENT!!

The BHS Class of 1972 50th Reunion committee is excited to announce an additional outside event on Saturday!  (This event is separate from the Friday event)

On Saturday, June 11th, we will be hosting a Beach BBQ at the Salt Shack at Cedar Beach.  The event runs from 1:00 to 4:00 and will be in their upstairs Sunset Deck area with fabulous views of both the ocean and the bay.  In case of rain, we will be moved downstairs to a sheltered area.

The menu looks great and we hear this is one of their most popular packages.

The Passion salad is made with mixed greens, strawberries, mango, apples, gorgonzola cheese, toasted walnuts, pickled red onion, all in a pomegranate vinaigrette.

The Carolina Chicken Sliders are reportedly a fan favorite, and they are prepared with a buttermilk marinade, and dipped in spicy honey, and topped with house-made coleslaw on a brioche bun.

The Classic Juicy cheeseburgers and Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs speak for themselves.

The Summer Veggie Pasta Salad is fusilli pasta, roasted veggies, grilled corn and house-made pesto.  The Mexican Street Corn is drizzled with smoked paprika aioli, and topped with grated cotija cheese.

The menu also includes coffee, tea, soda, water and a light dessert.

There will be a cash bar for alcohol purchases.

I know this event will appeal to many because it is outdoors and on the beach with a terrific summer menu. Ticket sales will begin on Tuesday, October 12th.  Tickets will be $65.00 per person and purchase details will be shared when ticket sales begin.  Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

REUNION TICKETS SELLING FAST!!

The tickets to the BHS Class of 1972 50th Reunion are selling fast.  We have now sold half of the available tickets to this event.

"Why are you limiting the amount of tickets that can be sold?" some of you have asked.  As you may know, when you book a catering event, the room you book always has a maximum occupancy number which is established by the Fire Department or other local agencies.  The room we have booked for Capt Bill's has a max of 100 guests.  So that is why we are limited.  There is a larger room, but when Bob Russo checked today, that room is not available on that date.  So it looks like we are limited to 100 by the room.

We did consider booking the larger room to start, but it would have meant guaranteeing that at least 100 or more would attend.  If 100 don't attend, you still have to pay for all those seats.  We couldn't take that chance, especially since we kept the ticket price as low as we could, and there won't be extra money to pay for unsold seats.  Since we usually attract about 80 attendees per reunion, 100 is probably the right number, since we may get more people attending because it is a real milestone reunion--50 years!

Many classmates have reached out to me to tell me to expect their payment shortly.  I have added them to the list of attendees.  Please reach out to me if you are mailing a check, or even if you plan to Venmo or PayPal the money soon.

Meanwhile, we are accepting requests for the songs that the DJ should play that night.  The first request I received was, "Those Were the Days" by Mary Hopkins.  A great choice, and oh so fitting!

Please don't miss out on attending this fun event!  Buy your tickets now or reach out to me to let me know you plan to attend.

 THE REUNION IS OFFICIALLY ON!!

Can you believe that it has been 50 years since we graduated from A.G. Berner High School?  We can’t either!!  To commemorate that event, we are holding our 50th Reunion at Captain Bill’s in Bayshore, NY, on June 10, 2022 from 5 to 9 pm.

Captain Bill’s is located on the harbor at the Bayshore Marina and boasts spectacular views and great ambiance.  The room we have booked includes an outdoor patio for enjoying the sunset, getting a breath of fresh air, or maintaining social distance.  The evening features a delicious buffet supper, dessert, and unlimited soft drinks.  We will have a cash bar with our own dedicated bartender.

We have booked DJ BWess for the evening and he will provide us with 3 hours of musical entertainment.  He also provides Karaoke, so please start practicing now!  This DJ is also happy to take requests, and even happier when he gets the requests in advance.  Please let us know the songs you won’t be able to live without hearing that night.  You know we have already started compiling a request list!

UPDATE!!

Ticket sales are on hold now until September 12th.

Please check back after that for complete instructions on how to buy your tickets!

The committee is also working on booking some fun events for Saturday and Sunday.  Details will be forthcoming.
