 THE REUNION IS OFFICIALLY ON!!

Can you believe that it has been 50 years since we graduated from A.G. Berner High School?  We can’t either!!  To commemorate that event, we are holding our 50th Reunion at Captain Bill’s in Bayshore, NY, on June 10, 2022 from 5 to 9 pm.

Captain Bill’s is located on the harbor at the Bayshore Marina and boasts spectacular views and great ambiance.  The room we have booked includes an outdoor patio for enjoying the sunset, getting a breath of fresh air, or maintaining social distance.  The evening features a delicious buffet supper, dessert, and unlimited soft drinks.  We will have a cash bar with our own dedicated bartender.

We have booked DJ BWess for the evening and he will provide us with 3 hours of musical entertainment.  He also provides Karaoke, so please start practicing now!  This DJ is also happy to take requests, and even happier when he gets the requests in advance.  Please let us know the songs you won’t be able to live without hearing that night.  You know we have already started compiling a request list!

UPDATE!!

Ticket sales are on hold now until September 12th.

Please check back after that for complete instructions on how to buy your tickets!

The committee is also working on booking some fun events for Saturday and Sunday.  Details will be forthcoming.

CLASS OF 1972 50th REUNION JUNE 2022

The A.G. Berner HS Class of 1972 reunion committee is happy to announce that we have been able to book a venue to celebrate our 50th reunion.

The reunion will take place on June 10, 2022 from 5-9 pm at Captain Bill's in Bayshore, NY.  They are offering a fabulous Buffet dinner with a cash bar.  We will book a DJ and offer a variety of music with some emphasis on the music of the 70's.  You will be able to make requests prior to the date.  We may also be offering Karaoke for a portion of the evening.  All details are still in the works but the date and venue have been locked in!

At this time, we are expecting the evening's cost to be $70 or less.  We will be able to firm that up when the DJ has been booked.

We will also try to find block bookings for area hotels so that attendees will be able to stay overnight if necessary.  Details still in the works.

We would love to hear your enthusiasm for this event.  Please let us know if you are planning to attend.  Tickets are not yet for sale but will be soon.  We would love to see YOU there.

REUNION?? YOUR FEEDBACK NEEDED!

Hello Berner Bisons, Class of 1972

As you may know, we have been talking about hosting a reunion this year to celebrate that we have turned 65 and are now covered by Medicare!  Yipee--a great milestone!

We have made some preliminary plans and we would like to share those details with you now because we need to determine if there are enough classmates who would attend this event.

We have decided that if we have a reunion, we would like to attach it to the Massapicnic weekend.
Massapicnic will be held At Marjorie Post Park on Sat, Sept 12 from noon to dusk.  They will have a band from the class of 1977, Porch Groove, from 2:00 pm to close.  Nothing else will be provided.  It is BYOE, or bring your own EVERYTHING!  Massapicnic is open to all from Massapequa, regardless of what class, or which High School you attended.  It has been a popular event in past years.

So we were thinking of hosting a party on Friday afternoon at Big Daddy's on Park Lane in Massapequa Park.  The party would be 3 hours long, and include a tasty buffet of the food Big Daddy's is known for--mostly cajun comfort food and barbecue.  For the three hours, it would run $60 per person and include unlimited food and drink, including alcohol.

We figured that we would fill out the rest of the weekend with a couple of bar stops and Sunday morning breakfast at Nautilus.  Of course, as always, attend what you want and skip the rest.

In order to make sure that we can actually attract enough attendees to make this event work, we need your input now.  Can you please go to our class Facebook page (Berner HS Class of 1972) and leave a response under this posting to let us know if you plan to attend?  Please let us know before February 29, 2020 so that we can begin to plan.

The question is:  Would you plan to attend a reunion party on Friday, September 11th at Big Daddy's in MPK.  Cost for this afternoon (2-5, maybe) event would be $60 per person which would include food and drinks.

Thank you for your cooperation!

THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD

In a week, I will be retiring from a job that I have loved and been passionate about.  I am the Youth Specialist at a large and busy local library.  Youth Specialist is the same as Children’s Librarian without the Masters degree in Library Information Science.

Our library is a new branch that opened just shy of two years ago. Approximately 700 people walk through our doors daily and we circulate about 1000 items every day.
About 60% (or 600) of those items circulated are from the Children’s department.  Clearly, this community was simply waiting for a library to spring up in their midst.

I took Fred Rogers as my muse.  I was inspired by his gentleness with children and his ability to explain things to them simply and completely.  Storytimes were fun and supportive of early childhood literacy. The job gave me many, many opportunities to be kind to children and their families.

Although I still love my job, my decision to retire was based on several factors.  The first was that I turned 65 and qualified for Medicare, and so the burden of Healthcare coverage was lifted.  Secondly, just last month, our son and his wife became the proud parents of our first grandchild, Rosemary Jane, known as Rosie.  Since they live in California, we will need to be free to travel there so that Rosie will know us.  The third reason is that my usually healthy and athletic husband had a year full of health challenges, starting with a heart attack in February, and followed by the discovery that he is a diabetic, and suffering from bladder stones.  To quote John Lennon,  “Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.”  We had  bought an RV two years ago with the idea that we would slowly learn how to operate and drive the  RV before we launched ourselves across the country, and now that time has come.

My last Storytime was on Friday.  Just before we began our goodbye song, the Library Staff surprised me by coming into Storytime, carrying flowers and telling the parents and kids to wish me well. They also said that they would miss me. My tears were real as we launched into singing: “See you later, Alligator, in a while, Crocodile, hit the trail, tiny snail, stay sweet, Parakeet!”

With a mixture of sadness and excitement, I am turning my focus from my job to my new life.  I look forward to traveling and I plan to do some volunteer work, too. And I hope that along the way I find many new opportunities to be kind.

Are you retiring or planning to do so soon?  Let me know about it.  Now that I have more time, I hope to revive our Berner HS Class of 1972 blog.

FINAL DAYS TO 45th REUNION!

So it it T minus 4 today---the reunion is in 4 days.  At this moment, we have 78 classmates who have either sent me a check or let me know that they will definitely be there.

If you know that you are going to attend, but you haven't let me know that yet, please send me a message ASAP.  If I hear from you in the next 24 hours, I will add you to the list at the pre-purchase price of $45.  The day of the event the price jumps to $65!  Don't miss out-- just send me a private message and I will add your name to the list and guarantee you the lower rate.

We would like to know in advance if you are attending so that we can have your name-tag ready.  Also, so that our catering company will have the proper head count so they can make sure to have enough food to feed us all.  Please remember that it is a lot of work to bring a big party like this and all the attending details to order.  We will be so grateful if you let us know in advance so that we can be ready for you!

If you are paying at the door, please remember to bring exact change!!  We will not be holding a lot of cash to make change, so we would love it if you had exact change.

We can't wait to see everybody and have a blast!  The festivities start on Friday night at Big Daddy's on Park Lane in Massapequa Park from 4-6 pm.  On Saturday, the Supreme BBQ starts at 1:00pm.

See you in just a few days!!

The Berner Class of 1972 45th High School Reunion will take place in a little less than 2 weeks at Tanner Park in Copiague, NY.  Your job is to use Planes, Trains and Automobiles to get yourself to this fun event.  It simply will not be the same without you!

Even Steve Martin is begging you to please come!

The weekend festivities will kick off with a bar party at Big Daddy's on Park Lane in Massapequa Park from 4-6 pm.  Big Daddy's has great appetizers and a cash bar.  The party will continue after 6 pm at a location to be determined.

On Saturday, the fun continues at Tanner Park in Copiague, NY from 1-5 pm.  We will enjoy a great Supreme BBQ with lots of great food choices, soft drinks, water, coffee and tea.  Alcohol is available for purchase at the bar (drinks can be purchased singly or with a $15 unlimited alcohol bracelet).  There will be live music.

As we did at the last gathering, we will take the party to another location when the party ends at Tanner Park.  Last time we went to Giacomo Jack's which proved to be a fun place.  We will do something equally fun this time, too!

Sunday morning please stop down at the Nautilus and see if you can join a classmate for breakfast.  Although the Nautilus doesn't take reservations, most of us will be there between 8-11 and you are sure to find a familiar face.

Thanks to Garrett King, we've got that covered!  Garrett contacted the Best Western Bar Harbour and was able to get a group block of rooms at a discounted rate, all reserved under the Berner HS 72 Reunion name.  Best Western was able to block 5 double rooms (2 double beds) and 5 King rooms (King sized bed and pullout sofa) for Friday night and 6 doubles and 5 Kings for Saturday night.  Due to advanced wedding bookings, they were not able to offer us any more than that.

Their normal rate for those rooms is $149 plus tax and they agreed to lower that rate to $125 + tax.

Please note that this special rate expires on May 9th!!

To book: call 516-541-2000

Garrett also arranged a similar deal with the Marriott Courtyard  on Rte 110 in Farmingdale, near Republic Airport.  They are holding 5 King rooms for Friday night and 10 King rooms for Saturday night.

They are lowering their usual $249 rate to $209 + tax.  This deal expires on May 10th.
Book by calling 631-847-0010

Thank you, Garrett for arranging this!
